ChatGPT Rank Tracking Tools Under $50 a Month: What Cheap Plans Really Cover in 2026

Which ChatGPT rank trackers cost less than $50 a month in 2026, and what do you actually get? Prompt caps, credit systems, and refresh cadence decide whether a cheap plan tells you anything useful.

Key takeaways

  • At least six ChatGPT trackers list entry plans under $50 a month: Otterly.AI ($29), Airefs ($24), Rankscale ($20), Leapd's Alex ($39), Nightwatch ($39 plus an AI add-on), and Geoptie or Xtrusio at $49. Prices vary by source, so verify on the vendor page.
  • The sticker price rarely tells you the cost per check. Prompt caps, credit systems, and per-engine splits change the math fast.
  • Fifteen prompts is thin. Promptwatch Data found that 47.6% of ChatGPT responses cite 10 or more domains, so a tiny prompt set gives a noisy read.
  • Cheap plans track mentions and citations. They generally don't show crawler logs, AI-referred traffic, or content fixes.
  • Pick a cheap tracker to learn whether you show up at all. Move up when you need to act on what you find.

Why price is the wrong first question

Search for a ChatGPT rank tracker and the first thing you'll notice is how many of them cost less than a team lunch. Twenty bucks here, $29 there. It looks like a solved problem.

It isn't, quite. A ChatGPT rank tracker doesn't give you a position the way a Google rank tracker does. It runs your chosen prompts through ChatGPT on a schedule and logs whether your brand is mentioned, whether your site is cited, and who else shows up. The quality of that read depends on three boring variables: how many prompts you get, how often they re-run, and how many engines share the same quota.

A $29 plan with 15 prompts split across four engines is a very different thing from a $29 plan with 15 prompts on ChatGPT only. The headline price hides that. So this guide goes plan by plan and looks at what the money covers.

What a cheap ChatGPT tracker measures

Every tool in this price range does roughly the same core job:

  • Runs a fixed list of prompts through ChatGPT
  • Records whether your brand is mentioned
  • Records which URLs ChatGPT cites
  • Shows competitors that appear alongside you
  • Charts the trend over days or weeks

What they mostly don't do is tell you why. You see that a competitor was named and you weren't. You don't see whether GPTBot ever crawled your page, whether it hit an error, or whether any AI visitor actually reached your site. That's where the $50 ceiling starts to bite, and I'll come back to it.

The sub-$50 field at a glance

Pricing below comes from vendor pages as quoted in the roundups we reviewed. Sources disagree in places (Morningscore shows up at both $49 and $69), so treat these as starting points and confirm at checkout.

Otterly.AI at $29

Otterly is the name that comes up most in every roundup as the cheapest transparent self-serve option. Lite gives you 15 prompts. Standard jumps to $189 a month for 100 prompts and API access, and Premium is $489 for 400. There's a real cliff between Lite and Standard, so plan on Lite being a trial of the category rather than a long-term home.

The catch is the arithmetic. Fifteen prompts across four default engines means you're checking ChatGPT with a fraction of that budget if you spread evenly. Fine for a quick sanity check on your brand name and a few commercial queries. Not enough for a topic-level view.

Rankscale at $20

Rankscale is the lowest sticker price in the group, and its feature set is genuinely good for the money: a Citation Analysis panel and the only user-controlled refresh schedule in the roundups we read. ChatGPT is also one of its cheapest engines to check at 0.25 credits.

The problem is the credit model. Essentials ships with zero included credits, so you pay $20 and then buy credits on top. On the Pro tier, a check works out to about $0.021 per answer. Go in with a budget for credits, not just the plan.

Airefs at $24

Airefs is the second cheapest in the original roundup, and its product pages list prompt tracking next to AI crawler analytics and AI traffic analytics. That's more than most tools at this price even mention. Whether those modules are in the $24 tier or higher ones is worth confirming before you pay.

To be fair, this roundup is published by Airefs itself and ranks Airefs second. Read it as a vendor's view of the category, which is still useful for the price list.

Leapd's Alex at $39

Alex is the most generous on prompts at the entry level: 50 prompts re-run every 48 hours, plus a 100-page site audit and three AI-written articles a month. That is a lot of surface area for $39. The tradeoff is engine coverage. Starter is ChatGPT only, and Perplexity, AI Overview, and Gemini arrive on the Pro tier.

Geoptie, Xtrusio and the $49 tier

At $49 you start to see different design choices. Geoptie covers seven engines including Claude on its entry plan, which is unusual (some cheaper tools drop Claude entirely), but you get 15 prompts and 2 brands. Xtrusio goes the other direction: 500 prompts, but updated weekly. Geoptie also offers a free ChatGPT tracker with no card and no time limit, handy for a first look.

Why prompt caps matter more than you'd think

The 15-prompt limit is the detail most buyers skip. Promptwatch Data on unique domains per ChatGPT response (Sep 28 to Oct 4, 2026) shows why it matters. 47.6% of responses with a citation cite 10 or more domains, and 66.1% cite at least 8. For organic prompts where no brand is named, 52.5% cite 10 or more.

That's a crowded answer. If you're one of ten sources and the set changes from run to run, a single prompt tells you very little. Fifteen prompts is better than one, but still a narrow sample of how buyers actually ask. Brand-specific prompts are tighter (21.3% cite 10 or more), so a small plan is more reliable for tracking your own name than for tracking category queries.

There's a second wrinkle. Promptwatch's query fanout data shows ChatGPT's own searches shrinking. Fanouts averaged 2.15 queries per response in early December 2025 and about 1.84 by early March 2026, and by April the average query was around 53 characters, short and keyword-like. Your tracked prompt isn't the query ChatGPT sends to the web. A cheap tracker records the answer to your prompt, but it doesn't show the searches behind it.

Refresh cadence: the quiet cost driver

Citation sets move. Promptwatch's content half-life data, tracking pages ChatGPT cited on July 6, 2026 through Oct 4, 2026, found that 78% of landing pages and 76% of docs were still cited after 30 days. News pages lost half their citations within 36 days. Product pages, reviews, and how-tos have a half-life of roughly 74 to 77 days.

So a weekly refresh is enough for evergreen pages and too slow for news-driven topics. Check how often a plan really re-runs prompts. Alex runs every 48 hours. Xtrusio is weekly. Rankscale lets you set it yourself, which is nice, but each extra run spends credits.

Real cost per check

The cheapest plan on sticker isn't always the cheapest per answer. Mission Growth's per-check comparison makes this point well. Some figures from their roundup:

ToolApproximate cost per check
Ahrefs prompt packages$0.010 to $0.020
ZipTie$0.01 per prompt per engine, $0.0087 across all 7 engines
AIclicks$0.013 (Starter), $0.010 (Pro)
Rankscale Pro$0.021
Peec AI$0.021
SE Ranking$0.030 to $0.034 per daily prompt check
AI Rank Checker$0.1284 pay-as-you-go

The sharper example is Morningscore: ten prompts checked weekly on a $69 plan works out to about $1.59 per check, roughly 160 times Ahrefs Scale's rate. A cheap-looking subscription can be an expensive habit if you barely use the quota.

Searchable is the opposite pattern. It charges $1.25 per prompt per model per month on its entry plan, which looks pricey next to tools under $1 per prompt, but it is built around action-oriented analytics. Worth a look if you want less raw data and more direction.

If you only need an occasional audit, a subscription may be wasted. AI Rank Checker charges about $0.13 per check with no monthly fee, which suits a consultant doing one-off client audits. What no $50 plan covers

Here's the honest gap. Under $50, you're buying a mention log. You are generally not getting:

  • IP-verified AI crawler logs showing whether GPTBot or ChatGPT-User reached your pages, and whether they hit errors
  • AI-referred visitor analytics that tie ChatGPT to actual traffic and conversions
  • Prompt volumes and difficulty, so you know which prompts are worth tracking
  • Content gap analysis and publishing, which turn a finding into a fix
  • Reddit, YouTube, and LinkedIn citation reports
  • State or city-level targeting for local queries

That matters because tracking alone leaves you with a diagnosis and no treatment. If the tool tells you a competitor is cited and you aren't, the next questions are why and what to publish. Cheap trackers rarely answer either.

When you're ready for that step, platforms like Promptwatch connect monitoring to crawler logs, traffic attribution, and a Content Agent that writes and publishes against your gaps. It starts at $95 a month on Essential, with a free Explore plan that tracks ChatGPT for 10 prompts. Confirm current pricing at promptwatch.com/pricing.

A sensible way to start

  1. Write 15 to 30 prompts across three groups: your brand name, comparisons with named competitors, and category questions with no brand in them.
  2. Run a free tracker first. If your brand never appears in any of them, you have a content problem, not a tracking problem.
  3. Pick one paid entry plan and run it for a month. Note how many of your prompts the plan really covers on ChatGPT.
  4. Check the refresh cadence against your topic. News-driven categories need faster runs than evergreen ones.
  5. Decide by day 30 whether you need the why behind the data. If yes, the extra spend on crawler logs and traffic attribution pays off. If no, stay cheap.

Bottom line

Cheap ChatGPT trackers work for a narrow job: telling you whether you're named. Otterly at $29, Rankscale at $20, and Alex at $39 all do that. The differences are the prompt cap, the credit model, and the refresh rate, and those are what you should compare, not the price tag. For a wider scan of options, the GEO software directory lists more tools by category. And if the answer to "are we named?" turns out to be "rarely," that's the moment to stop shopping on price and look for something that helps you fix it.
