Best AI Visibility Tools for Regulated Industries Needing ISO 27001 and GDPR in 2026

Banks, insurers, healthcare and legal teams can't pick an AI visibility tool on features alone. Here's how to vet ISO 27001 and GDPR claims, which tools to shortlist, and what to ask each vendor before you sign.

Key takeaways

  • "GDPR compliant" is a self-declared status. ISO 27001 is a certification backed by an audit report. Treat them as different things and ask for evidence of both.
  • Promptwatch is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and GDPR compliant, which makes it the most straightforward shortlist pick for procurement-heavy teams that also want the tool to fix visibility gaps, not just report them.
  • Profound says it is SOC 2 Type II certified and offers SSO. Peec AI says it is GDPR compliant and is still pursuing SOC 2. Neither vendor page we reviewed mentions ISO 27001, so confirm it directly.
  • Most AI visibility tools monitor public AI answers and don't ingest personal data, which keeps your risk surface small. Crawler logs, visitor analytics and CMS publishing are where the real security questions start.
  • A blanket block on AI crawlers, often added for compliance reasons, can remove your site from AI answers entirely.

Why regulated teams need a different buying process

Most AI visibility roundups rank tools on engine coverage and price. That is fine if you sell sneakers. It is not fine if you work at a bank, an insurer, a healthcare provider or a law firm, where the security team gets a veto and a vendor questionnaire can take longer than the pilot itself.

The awkward part is that AI search matters more to you than to most. In Promptwatch Data's healthcare citation report (Sep 9 to Oct 8, 2026), government and public health sites earned almost half of ChatGPT citations, with NIH, the FDA and the NHS leading. If you are a private provider, a pharma brand or a health insurer, you are competing for a small slice of what AI trusts. You need to know where you stand, and you need a vendor your procurement team will actually approve.

This guide covers what ISO 27001 and GDPR mean in this context, which vendor claims we could and couldn't verify, a shortlist, and a due diligence checklist you can send to vendors this week.

What ISO 27001 and GDPR actually tell you

ISO 27001 is an audited certification

ISO/IEC 27001 certifies that a company runs an information security management system, assessed by an external auditor. It covers the organization's processes: access control, incident response, supplier management, risk assessment. It does not certify a specific feature, and the certificate has a defined scope. Always ask which entity, which products and which locations are in scope.

GDPR compliance is mostly a self-declaration

There is no official GDPR certificate that a SaaS vendor can hang on the wall. When a vendor says "GDPR compliant" it means they have made claims about lawful processing, data subject rights, a Data Processing Agreement (DPA), a subprocessor list and, ideally, EU data residency. Good vendors will hand over a DPA and subprocessor list without a fight. Vague ones won't.

SOC 2 is not the same as ISO 27001

SOC 2 Type II is a US attestation report. ISO 27001 is an international certification. Plenty of regulated European buyers specifically require ISO 27001, and a SOC 2 report will not satisfy that line in your questionnaire. Some security teams accept either. Find out which yours does before you shortlist.

What data do AI visibility tools actually touch?

This is the question that shrinks or grows your review burden. Most of what these platforms do is run prompts against public AI interfaces and record the answers and citations. That data is about your brand and your competitors, not your customers. Promptwatch, for example, publishes only aggregated, non-identifiable trends from its monitoring data.

The risk rises when you connect more:

  • AI crawler logs, which come from your CDN or server and contain IP addresses and user agents.
  • Visitor analytics, which tracks AI-referred traffic through a script or tag on your site.
  • Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster connections.
  • CMS publishing access, where a tool can write to your website.
  • Slack, MCP or API integrations that move data into other systems.

A monitoring-only deployment is usually a light review. A full deployment with logs, analytics and publishing deserves the full questionnaire. Start with monitoring if your security team is slow, then expand once the vendor is approved.

How the main vendors compare on compliance

The table below only reports what we could source. Most of it comes from vendors' own pages, so treat it as a starting point for your questionnaire, not a substitute for it.

PromptwatchCertified (ISO/IEC 27001)CompliantSSO on Enterprise, audit log on Business and up, scoped API keys, role-based accessAmsterdam HQ, so EU-based

Otterly.AINot verifiedNot verifiedNot verifiedLow entry price, verify before use
Semrush AI ToolkitNot verified for this productNot verifiedNot verifiedCheck the parent company's trust documentation

Two caveats. First, the Profound and Peec AI claims come from each vendor's own comparison pages, which are marketing material. Second, a Publive AXP comparison page lists SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI, FedRAMP and CSA STAR Level 1, but it isn't clear which product that applies to, so don't rely on it without confirming.

Shortlist: tools worth putting through procurement

Promptwatch

Promptwatch is the one I would put first for regulated teams, for a plain reason: it holds an ISO/IEC 27001 certification and is GDPR compliant, and it is also a full optimization platform rather than a prompt tracker. That combination matters because it means one vendor review instead of three.

On the security side, it has owner, editor and viewer roles, scoped API keys, an audit log on Business, Agency Scale and Enterprise, and SSO on Enterprise. White-label workspaces and branded read-only client access help agencies that serve regulated clients.

On the capability side, it monitors the real interfaces of ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Claude and others, in each country and language, which matters when you operate in several jurisdictions. IP-verified crawler logs show whether AI systems can read your pages. The Content Agent plans, writes and publishes to WordPress, Webflow or Framer, with a review inbox where a human approves every piece before it goes live. That review step is what a compliance team wants to see. You can also run it fully hands-off, but I wouldn't for a regulated site.

Pricing starts at $95/month for Essential, with Business at $579/month including the Content Agent and audit log. Confirm current pricing at promptwatch.com/pricing. SSO and managed content workflows are Enterprise features, so budget accordingly if your security policy requires SSO.

Profound

Profound is a strong enterprise monitoring platform and a legitimate choice if your security team accepts SOC 2 Type II in place of ISO 27001. It says it serves more than 2,500 brands, including a third of the Fortune 100, and it lists SAML/OIDC SSO, RBAC and an independent HIPAA assessment. That HIPAA point is useful for US healthcare. The tradeoffs are a higher price and a focus on monitoring over execution. Verify the ISO 27001 question directly.

Peec AI

Peec AI is a clean, reasonably priced monitoring tool that appeals to European agencies. It states GDPR compliance and offers SAML SSO, but it openly says SOC 2 is still in progress. For an EU team whose only hard requirement is GDPR, it can pass. For one that requires a certified ISMS, it likely won't until that changes. It is a tracker, so you will need other tools to act on what it finds.

Scrunch and Otterly.AI

Scrunch is positioned toward enterprises and agencies, and Otterly.AI is the budget option, with entry pricing reported from $29/month. We could not verify certifications for either, so both go on the "ask for the trust center" list. If either has a current ISO 27001 certificate, it will be on a public trust page or in a security pack they can send within a day.

Semrush and the SEO suites

If your organization already has Semrush, Conductor, BrightEdge or similar enterprise SEO software through procurement, adding their AI visibility module can be the path of least resistance. The vendor is already approved. The tradeoff is depth: these modules tend to have shallower AI-specific data than dedicated platforms. We did not verify the compliance coverage of the AI add-ons specifically, so confirm that the existing approval extends to them.

A word on vendor-authored roundups

Several of the "best AI visibility tools" pages you will find rank their own product first. KIME's guide ranks KIME first. Profound's agency list puts Profound first. That is normal marketing, and some of the information is useful, but none of those pages verified ISO 27001 status for competitors, and neither do most review sites. For regulated purchases, the vendor's own certificate and DPA matter far more than any ranking.

Due diligence checklist to send to vendors

Send these questions before the first demo. A good vendor answers them in a day. A weak one takes weeks, and that tells you something.

Certifications and evidence

  • Do you hold a current ISO/IEC 27001 certificate? Please send it, with the scope statement and the certification body.
  • Do you have a SOC 2 Type II report, and for what period?
  • When was your last penetration test, and can you share a summary?

GDPR and data handling

  • Can you provide a signed DPA and a current subprocessor list?
  • Where is data stored and processed? Is EU data residency available?
  • Do you process any personal data from our site or users? If so, which, and for how long?
  • What is your data retention and deletion process when we leave?
  • How do you handle international transfers?

Access control

  • Do you support SSO via SAML or OIDC, and on which plans?
  • Are there role-based permissions and an audit log? On which plan?
  • Can API keys be scoped and rotated?

Integrations and write access

  • If you publish to our CMS, what permissions does the connection need? Can a human approval step be mandatory?
  • How do crawler logs reach you, and are IPs stored or hashed?
  • Do you use our data to train models? Do your subprocessors?

AI-specific questions

  • Which AI model providers see our data? Many tools use LLMs internally for summaries and content, so ask which providers and under what terms.

Don't let compliance remove you from AI answers

Here is the irony I see often. A regulated company's security team blocks every AI crawler in robots.txt or at the WAF, to be safe. Then marketing wonders why the brand never appears in ChatGPT.

Promptwatch's AI crawler traffic data (IP-verified requests, Jun 8 to Sep 6, 2026) shows OpenAI made up 79.8% of verified AI crawler requests in the week of Aug 31 to Sep 6, down from 94.8% in early June. Traffic is spreading across providers, so a policy written for one bot won't cover the rest. If a provider is large in that mix but near zero in your own logs, you are probably blocked from it.

A better approach is a deliberate policy: decide which public pages AI systems may read (product pages, documentation, public guidance) and which stay off limits (logged-in areas, patient or client portals, anything with personal data). Then check your logs to confirm it works. Tools like Promptwatch's Agentic Readiness Check can show which AI crawlers can currently read your site.

What content to prioritize once you are approved

Regulated brands often worry about publishing anything that could be seen as a claim. That caution is reasonable, but the data says your plain factual pages are what AI cites. In Promptwatch's report on ChatGPT citations by content type (Sep 28 to Oct 4, 2026), product pages were the most cited type at 22.4%, with landing pages next at 16.8%. Documentation got 7.5%.

That is good news for compliance teams. The pages AI cites most are descriptive, factual and already reviewed by legal: what you sell, what it costs, who it is for. Keep specs and positioning complete and accurate, and keep public documentation crawlable. You don't need to write edgy thought leadership to show up.

For software companies specifically, the software citation report shows documentation and help centers earn the largest share of ChatGPT citations. Travel brands should look at the travel report, where booking and search sites take more than half.

Tiny budget, low-risk pilot, no integrationsOtterly.AI or a free reportMonitoring only, minimal data exposure

If you want a free, low-risk first step, Promptwatch offers a no-login AI Visibility Report that scans how ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity talk about your brand. It needs no integration, so it makes a decent way to build an internal case before the security review begins.

A phased rollout that regulated teams can defend

  1. Monitoring only. Track 50 to 150 prompts across the AI models you care about. No site integration, no personal data. Security review is light.
  2. Crawler visibility. Add CDN or server logs once your vendor's DPA and subprocessor list are signed. Confirm what is stored.
  3. Analytics and search data. Connect visitor analytics and Search Console to measure AI-referred traffic and conversions.
  4. Content with human review. Turn on content generation or CMS publishing with a mandatory approval step and a named reviewer from compliance or legal.
  5. Quarterly vendor review. Re-request the certificate, subprocessor list and any changes. Certificates expire.

Each phase gives your security team a smaller decision than "approve everything at once." It also gets marketing results sooner than a six-month procurement cycle that ends in a rejection.

Final recommendation

If your questionnaire literally says "ISO 27001 certified vendors only," Promptwatch is the one tool on this list where we can point to the certification, and it also covers monitoring, crawler logs, analytics and content in one place. If SOC 2 satisfies your team, Profound belongs in the bake-off. If GDPR is your only hard requirement and you just need monitoring, Peec AI is a fair fit.

Whatever you choose, get the certificate, the DPA and the subprocessor list in writing before the pilot starts. For more category options, the directories at bestgeosoftware.com and ai-rank-tools.com are good places to build a longer list. And if you want help scoping an AI search program inside a regulated environment, 1001 SEO Media runs GEO and technical SEO work for teams in exactly this position.
